Now on thing we need to get straight is it does take a little time for you to see the results of SEO, but the results are well worth it and can bring profitable results.

The Importance of SEO

SEO doesn't happen overnight, but it is well worth it in the long run and will give you long term profits.

This is like making an investment in your website. Now the good thing about focusing on optimizing your site is that once your site ranks in google, it is a good chance that it will stay that way. Just make sure that you keep the ethical practices of Search Engine Optimization and don't get your site penalized.

What should be your SEO Checklist?

  • You want to pick a niche for your website to focus on.
  • You want to do proper keyword research - Find keywords that you can realistic rank for. It is ok to start small.
  • You want to make sure you optimize your Blog Title by putting your keyword in your blog title.
  • You want to optimize your Meta Title by adding your keyword.
  • You want to optimize your Meta Description by adding your keyword.
  • You want to put at least 1 internal link in your blog post preferably add the hyperlink to your keyword
  • You want to put at least 1 external link in your blog post
  • Alt tags for all your images
  • Once your blog is complete you want to put a link in social media - I usually use YouTube
  • You want to add your page URL to google search console and have google index your blog.

Pick a niche for your Website

When you are choosing to start a blog or a website you want to decide on a niche.

What is a niche? denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.

In the marketing arena it can be defined as: Niche Markets are small specific markets. Individuals or businesses are grouped together for niche marketing if they share similar interests or needs.

How can one decide on what niche their website or blog should be about?

Well I usually like to ask an individual two questions to find out what their Niche should be.

1. If you could do anything and money wasn't an issue what would you do?

2. If you could do anything and you knew you wouldn't fail what would you do?

The answer to these questions usually tells me what a person is passionate about.

So I would say find a niche that is closely related to our passion and you are good.

Proper Keyword Research

Notice the title says " Proper Keyword Research "

This is where you look for a keyword that you will focus on to optimize your blog for.

You want it to be high search volume and low competition.

Important: Everything starts with proper keyword research. You can do everything else in this check list, but if you don't do proper keyword research then all these other steps really don't matter.

You want to focus on what is called your KQI - Keyword Quality Indicator these needs to be decent and if so then you probably have an excellent keyword to optimize your blog for. This is where a good keyword research tool comes in handy and will give you this necessary information.

My recommendation for a good keyword research tool is found with a company called Jaaxy and man this keyword research tool is powerful.

Once again Keyword Research is is a very important step when it comes to optimizing your Blog Post or Web-page. It is very important to take the time to do proper Keyword Research.

Optimize your Blog Title

The way you optimize your Blog Post title is by putting your keyword inside your Blog Title.

Note: The keyword needs to be exactly the way that you are trying to rank for.

Example: If I am trying to rank for " Free SEO Classes Online " then I want to put that keyword exactly the way it is in my blog title. I don't want to put " SEO Classes for Free " because it is not exactly the way the keyword is, that I am trying to rank for.

Even though it does contain the keyword, it is not exactly the same. It needs to be exactly the same as the keyword you are trying to rank for.

Also having a nice SEO plugin makes optimizing your Blog Title, Meta Title and Meta Description so much easier. Here is a link to get a pretty powerful SEO plugin for FREE.

It is called SEO Press.

Optimize your Meta Title

The way you optimize your Meta Title is by putting your keyword in your Meta Title.

Example: If I am targeting the keyword " SEO Training For Beginners " then I want to make sure that I put that keyword in my Meta Title the exact way that it is written.

You are limited to 60 characters so this may take a little time to get your keyword to fit right in, but it is well worth it.

Tip: You want to Capitalize the first letter of each word in your Meta Title. This will help your listing to stand out from all the other listings that are in google. You will become what is known as the primary focal point.

* Remember you are limited to 60 characters for your Meta Title.

Don't forget to get your FREE plugin that will help you to optimize your Meta Title, Meta Description and your on Page SEO.

Optimize your Meta Description

You also want to put your keyword in your Meta Description.

Tip: You also want to Capitalize the first letter of each word in your Meta Description. Like I mentioned earlier this will help your description to stand out from all the other descriptions that are in google. You will become what is known as the primary focal point.

It is important to remember that you are limited to 160 characters for your Meta Description. So you want to try to save as much space as possible, but reserving space for your keyword, which is priority.

You are some tips on how you can save space. Words that you can omit from your Meta Description to save you space are: Of - And - The - Not only that but you can use an ampersand ( &) for the word And which will save you two spaces.

Two spaces may not seem like much, but this is very helpful when the amount of letters is limited and you want to communicate as much as possible about your post or website.

You want to try and put your keyword as close to the start of your description as possible.

Example: If I am targeting the keyword " SEO Training For Beginners " and I want to put it as close as possible to the beginning I could put something like - " In this SEO Training For Beginners We Are Going To Show You How To Do SEO Marketing Like An Expert ."

Put an internal link in your Post

You also want to put at least 1 internal link in the content of your blog post.

An internal link is when you link from the post that you are writing to another post that is already published by linking from words from within your new blog. This link can be to a post or a page that is already on your website. The word that you use to link to another post is called your anchor text.

This is another very important step which can't be stressed enough, because this allows search engines to crawl your site beyond your menu and your sitemap. Did you know that your menu and your sitemap is the only way that search engines can crawl your site?

So having an internal link allows for another way for search engines to crawl your content and your posts.

Note: When adding an external link you want to avoid words such as: Click Here - Go Here - You want to try to make it as natural as possible.

Put an external link in your Post

You also want to put an external link within your post. It is a good idea to make this an authority site such as: YouTube - Wikipedia - Google

Example: If I am using the keyword " SEO Marketing " I can use that word to link to Wikipedia as an authoritative source. This is very helpful when trying to optimize your blog post for SEO.

If you only have inward links then that is called hoarding all your links and you are basically telling google that I am selfish, but by linking to an outside authoritative source you are doing what is called link diversity. This tells google that you are not trying to hoard all your links.

You want to have a good balance of links that are internal, links that are external and links that are coming in, that is link diversity at its best.

Alt tags for all your images

This is when you put an alt tag in your image that is related to your keyword.

When you upload an image to put in your post you will get a screen that look like this. You want to put your keyword in the section that says alt tag.

Put your URL in Social Media

Another thing that I like to do when optimizing my blog post for google search engines is to post my link in my YouTube discussion section. This is just as good as posting your link on any other social platform.

Here are the steps on how to go about posting your link to your YouTube discussion page:

  1. Log in to your YouTube Account
  2. Click on your profile pic
  3. Select the my channel option
  4. Then Select Discussion from the menu
  5. You will then be directed to your discussion page where you can post your URL.
Below is Screen Shot of the Discussion Page.
  • I Usually like to post my Blog Title - Meta Title - Meta Description and then the URL of the post. ( Make sure you post the full URL including the https:// )
  • Add your URL to Google Search Console

One last step that you can do, which has nothing to do with SEO, but it can help you track the progress of your website is to verify your site with Google Search Console.

Doing this will allow you to track the success of our SEO and allow you to see how many visitors are coming to your website, how many clicks your google listing is getting, and also how many impressions your listing is getting in google.

I personally host this site with Wealthy Affiliates and here is a step by step video on how you can add your Wealthy Affiliate Website to the Google Search Console.

Now even though there are more things you can do to optimize your website for the google search engine, these are some really good tips for beginners start with and I would even say even if you have been around for a while.

If you practice these few things for your SEO strategy you are guaranteed to see your website rankings climb the google charts.
